Welcome to the Warwickshire Chess Association website
The aim of the association is to promote junior chess, county chess, correspondence chess and tournaments in Warwickshire.
There are 3 local leagues that players can participate in and they are the Birmingham and District Chess League, Coventry & District Chess League and the Leamington &
District League.
The association enters teams into correspondence chess competitions. The three competitions are Ward-Higgs, Sinclair and Butler-Thomas. There are either 8 players or 10 players on
a team. Some of the games are played through a webserver and others are done through postal.
The association enters up to 4 teams into the inter-county championships. The new sections are as follows in line wiht the ECF rating boundaries:
Minor Open: u2050 average (u180 old ECF grade)
u1850 (u155 grade)
u1650 (u127 grade)
u1450 (u100 grade)
Entries are made by the end of August for all except the under 2050 tournament, which will be requested by the end of the
year.
We are still finalising Warwickshire County Teams for 2021 but are currently planning to enter teams in the Minor Open and
u1650 sections.
The championships are run through the Midland Counties Chess Union (MCCU) and the best 2 teams from each section progress to
the English Chess Federation (ECF) national stages.
Each year the association runs a tournament which is the Warwickshire Chess Congress.
This is open to everyone and there are sections for players of all abilities. The best scoring Warwickshire player in the Open
section is awarded the title of Warwickshire County Champion and the best scoring female player is awarded the title of
Warwickshire Women's County Champion.
